Spring school visits focus on SPED classes
I’ve visited many schools over the years and have enjoyed all of them. One of the most rewarding experiences was working with SPED classes with arts integration residencies at Cook Elementary School in Columbus, MS and King Early Learning Education Center in Tupelo, MS.
The SPED class lessons focused on the alphabet and the letters in the students’ names. We named the lesson series Name That Letter! The series was a great success! I was able to prepare a video of the series entitled The SPED Experiment and was able to present the video at the MS Arts Commission Whole School Initiative Summer Institute in July. Please take a look at the video. Click here to view it.
After working with the Arts Commission for over twelve years as an artist roster member and a teaching artist roster member, I have been trained for regular classrooms as well as SPED classes. Academic studies have proven that arts in the classroom encourages learning on several levels. Here are some links to studies on the effectiveness of arts in the classroom:

If you are interested in an arts integration lesson, I’ll be happy to work with you on preparing a lesson that will meet your curriculum needs. Also, please take a look at lessons that I’ve already prepared. Click here to go to my school visit page.
